Our Tutor Code of Practice (Summary)
At TutorProf, we believe great tutoring goes hand-in-hand with professionalism, integrity, and safeguarding. Our tutors follow a clear Code of Practice to ensure that every student receives safe, high-quality learning support.
1. Acting in Students’ Best Interests
- Tutors act honestly and professionally at all times.
- Tutoring relationships remain professional, never personal.
- Sessions are designed to create a safe, positive and supportive environment where students can thrive.
- Tutors respect every student’s dignity and promote their independence as learners.
- Plagiarism is not tolerated – students are supported to develop their own skills and confidence.
- Tutors adapt teaching to each student’s needs, abilities, and goals.
2. Safeguarding and Child Protection
- All tutors hold an up-to-date Enhanced DBS (England/Wales) or PVG (Scotland), renewed every 3 years.
- The welfare of children and young people always comes first.
- Sessions must take place in safe environments, either online or in person.
- Tutors follow strict professional boundaries:
- No personal contact with under-18s via social media or private messaging.
- Parents/guardians are encouraged to remain nearby during sessions.
- Cameras must remain on for online tutoring.
- Any safeguarding concern is reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
3. Professional Communication
- Tutors keep clear communication with TutorProf, parents, and schools.
- Feedback on student progress is provided regularly.
- Any concerns beyond the tutor’s role (e.g., social, emotional, or safeguarding concerns) are reported appropriately.
4. Suitability and Professional Development
- ·Tutors only accept roles that match their qualifications and expertise.
- Ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) ensures tutors stay up to date with curriculum changes and best practice.
5. Professional Conduct
- Tutors conduct themselves in a way that reflects positively on TutorProf and the wider tutoring profession.
- Confidentiality is respected at all times.
- Tutors never act in ways that could bring the profession or TutorProf into disrepute, including behaviour online.
- TutorProf pays tutors promptly and expects accurate timesheets in return.
6. Complaints and Accountability
- Tutors cooperate fully if a complaint is raised.
- Tutors are transparent, accountable, and able to explain their actions when required.
- Serious matters (such as convictions, safeguarding breaches, or misconduct) must be reported to TutorProf immediately.
7. Commitment to the Code
By working with TutorProf, tutors agree to uphold this Code of Practice in line with UK law, safeguarding guidance, and TutorProf's policies.
